Hurried footsteps of passengers who have already kicked off their May Day holiday echo throughout this busy airport.
Authorities at Beijing Capital International Airport said during the 5-day holiday, the airport is expected to witness over 918,000 passenger trips, a year-on-year increase of about 21 percent. And more than 5800 flights will be handled during the same period.
Meanwhile, many Chinese airlines plan to open, or resume a number of overseas flights, in an effort to boost international travel. For example, China Eastern Airlines will resume flights from Shanghai to Bangkok, as well as Shanghai to Riyadh and more.
Beside the aviation sector, authorities say the country’s railways are expected to see a daily average of 18.18 million passenger trips, up over 400 percent from the 2022 May Day holiday. As for highways and waterways, the figures are expected to jump by over 99 percent and 114 percent respectively.
China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism said domestic tourist trips will surge to 274 million.
