Thai PM to visit border town of Mae Sot as clashes continue in Myanmar

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is scheduled to visit the Thai-Myanmar border town of Mae Sot tomorrow, amid fresh clashes between Myanmar forces and armed ethnic groups in the region. The latest violence has been centred in the town of Myawaddy in Myanmar, which shares the border with Mae Sot. The Thai district police chief has estimated that at least a thousand people have fled into Thailand due to the conflict. Thailand has crafted short- and long-term plans to ensure it can respond promptly to emergent situations. May Wong reports from Mae Sot.
